Worm Castings
Worm castings are an organic form of fertiliser produced by worms that provide beneficial nutrients to plants. Worms are fed a nutritious diet of manure and other organic waste to produce vermicastings – nature’s purest and highest quality manure. The resulting castings (or worm poo) contains nutrients that are easily accessible by plants and improves soil aeration and drainage while making your soil more absorbent.
Majura Valley Worm Castings are alive with beneficial microbes that rebuild depleted soil and encourage plant growth. For top dressing soil
Distribute the desired amount of castings into the mulch layer mixing with the topsoil about 30mm deep – don’t use too much, we suggest 20L per 100m².
As a soil conditioner and enhancer
1. Lightly cultivate the area to break up the soil.
2. Spread Majura Valley Worm Cast onto the soil surface.
3. Lightly mix the worm cast into the topsoil.
4. Lightly mulch over the top to protect your topsoil and ensure the organic matter blends.
5. Water well.
If kept moist and well mulched, worm eggs will hatch and worms will get to work rebuilding soil health.
For existing plantings:
Spread a layer of 30mm deep worm cast around the base and lightly work into the surrounding soil.
Water well.
Cast will not burn fragile root system.
For pot plants and new plantings
1. spread a small amount of worm cast around the base of each plant
2. Place your plant into the hole and back fill with Majura Valley Compost or your chosen potting mix.
3. Water in well.
For Compost Tea:
For a liquid fertiliser or ‘worm juice’ add 1-2 cups of worm castings into a 10L bucket of water.
Allow the tea to brew for a day or two, stirring occasionally
Pour the solution through an old stocking or filter into a watering can. The filter catches the fines and other debris.
Squeeze out any additional liquid from the filter bag
Apply the liquid to your lucky plants!
We recommend use on the same day of the brew finishing.
